Girl dies after ‘unexplained’ incident at home – man and woman released on bail

An 11-year-old girl has died after an “unexplained” incident at a home as a a man and woman were arrested and then released on bail.

She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after she suffered severe injuries which left her fighting for her life yesterday morning.

But sadly, she was pronounced dead in the early hours of this morning.

West Yorkshire Police say they are investigating the death, which is being treated as unexplained.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Police are continuing to carry out enquiries following the unexplained death of an 11-year-old girl in Leeds.

“A post mortem is being arranged as part of ongoing enquiries to establish the circumstances of the child’s death, which is being treated as unexplained.”

Officers were called to reports of an incident involving a young girl at an address near Leeds, West Yorkshire, at around 6.55am yesterday.

They arrived at the home in Stanks Drive, Swarcliffe, where they arrested a man and a woman.

They have since been released on bail while enquiries are still ongoing.

The girl’s death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination is being arranged to learn more about the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are continuing to carry out enquiries following the unexplained death of an 11-year-old girl in Leeds.

“The girl was taken to hospital in a critical condition from an address in Stanks Drive, Swarcliffe, yesterday morning and was pronounced dead in the early hours of this morning.

“A man and a woman who were arrested in connection with the incident were released on bail last night.

“A post mortem is being arranged as part of ongoing enquiries to establish the circumstances of the child’s death, which is being treated as unexplained.”
